The 35th UN-Water Meeting, convened as a virtual event from 4-6 October 2021, brought together UN-Water Members and Partners to advance progress on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by 2030.
Over 110 representatives from UN-Water Members, Partners and observers participated in the open sessions on days one and two, where primary attention was given to planning for the UN 2023 Water Conference. The Secretary-General of the Conference and representatives from the the Conference’s co-hosts, Tajikistan and the Netherlands, addressed the meeting to initiate discussion on the thematic dialogue sessions that will take place at the event in 2023.
Other agenda items included:
- The UN World Water Development Report 2023, on the theme of ‘accelerating change through partnerships and cooperation’.
- World Water Day and World Toilet Day 2022, on the theme of ‘groundwater’.
- SDG 6 Global Acceleration Framework.
- Water Action Decade.
On day three, representatives from UN-Water Members and Partners with Special Status convened for a closed session which considered operational issues.
