Keeping Progress of Integrated Water Resources Management on Track

To support this process, the Global Water Partnership (GWP), working through the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, will facilitate multi-stakeholder consultations to evaluate and report on SDG indicator 6.5.1.

Progress on SDG 6 - “Availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by 2030” - is lagging significantly and, on average, countries need to double their current rate of progress to achieve target SDG 6.5 on IWRM implementation. 

This year's data collection will enable countries to identify gaps, obstacles, and prioritize actions needed to accelerate progress towards the water-related SDGs, which are interconnected with broader national development.
 
The SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, guided by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), coordinates with the Global Water Partnership (GWP), UNEP-DHI Centre for Water and Environment, and United Nations Development Programme Cap-Net (UNDP Cap-Net) to provide technical and financial assistance. It strengthens stakeholder-inclusive reporting for SDG indicator 6.5.1, thereby enhancing national monitoring. 

The programme offers updated guidance materials, a monitoring guide, stakeholder manual, and self-paced courses, and the SDG 6 IWRM Community facilitates information exchange.
